The Heart of the Church - Evangelist

The Heart of the Church
Written by Pastor Eddie
Within the heart of the church we need to become people who are passionate to see the lost won to Jesus Christ.  To put it bluntly, you and I are to live out our lives as testimonies to Jesus - to be evangelist.  Now must of us here have a certain picture in our mind, when we hear the word evangelist.  For some, it is the sidewalk preacher yelling hellfire and brimstone; for others it is someone like Bill Graham, or perhaps a traveling minister who goes about doing revivals.

The Evangelist I am speaking of, come from passages like Luke 10:2 “...And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest”. John 4: 39 Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.”  40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. 41 And many more believed because of his word. 42 They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.” That is the picture I see when I say, evangelist.

Some of you may have the Heart of the Evangelist and your heart beats to see someone, anyone won to the Kingdom of God.
The interesting thing about evangelist is that they are often, not too overly concerned with the feelings of other people, even people within the House of God. They are only concerned with preaching the Truth of God's and letting the chips fall where they may.  It isn’t to say that they don’t care how others feel, they just aren’t focused on someone's feelings as much as they are their eternal abode. Their attitude is, “Here’s the truth, receive it, I am after the next person, I’m moving on.” Their only concern is whether you know Jesus Christ and whether you are on fire, lukewarm or cold in your spirit.

Over the last three weeks I have blogged about three types of heart conditions inside the church.  The unteachable, the servant and the evangelist.  At one time or another each of us have probably walked with one of those hearts.  Now, we want to stay away from the unteachable heart as much as possible, and remain teachable so that God, who has called each of us to work in His Kingdom, can continue to reveal His presence, grace and mercy in us and through us. He has given each of us a job to do for Him and He has equipped us as a body with the talents and abilities to get the job done.

If you have the Heart of an Evangelist then get out there and witness for Jesus. Bring in the saved so that we who have the Heart of a Servant can disciple them and help them to be what God wants them to be.  We will help you to be a witness, however, understand that we may not have the same calling you have. The Heart of a Servant tends to focus most on the flock while the Heart of the Evangelist is mostly upon those who are outside of the flock.  The goal is to work together to fulfill the purposes of the Kingdom.
So, where do you see yourself?  Are you unteachable; are you a servant; or are you an evangelist?  Let’s see if we can’t each find the answers to those questions for ourself and then let’s get busy together strengthening the Heart of the Church.
