The Heart of the Church - Servanthood

The Heart of the Church
Written by Pastor Eddie
This is Part 2 of series The Heart of the Church, todays is, The Servants Heart.  The person with a Servants Heart is someone who is willing to serve and by their very nature someone who is very teachable.  In 3 John 1:1-12, Gaius is that person.

Gaius was a man who was called into the ministry because of his desire to walk in truth, love and his concern for the people of God. He was a minister to those within the House of God who are sick, distressed, hurting, discouraged or who were in need of teaching and instruction.  Gaius had become a disciple of Jesus and was doing the things that Jesus did while He was on the earth.

It is amzing when the people of God, emulate Jesus!  One of my favorite things that happens, within the Body of Christ, is when people come together and through servanthood, form life-long friendships.

Let me say this to establish where I am coming from:  Everyone within the Body of Christ has the potential to be a minister, as a matter of fact, it is predisposition that we walk in as son’s and daughter’s of God.  Through Jesus Christ we are now considered a royal priesthood.

Hopefully you have run into them through out your walk with God.  They are the people who come into your life and make such a profound impact upon your heart that they are forever considered your friend. These people take more than a casual interest in your life, they immerse themselves into the lives of those around them.  This is the kind of heart that every one of us must have if we are to become leaders of men and women inside and outside the church; especially if we are to cultivate a Servants Heart.

Check out
Philippians 2:1-5 "So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, 2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 3 Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus..."

This passage encapsulates the character of the a person who has a Servants Heart.  As a servant of the people you must be ready to bring consolation in every adversity; show love in the times when you don’t feel like showing it; attempt to bring everyone around you into a stronger relationship with Jesus Christ; and allow the Holy Spirit to lead you to encourage, edify and exhort the Body of Christ with great compassion and mercy.

One of the greatest joys of someone with a Servant’s Heart is to see those who are being served begin to prosper and grow in the Lord. It’s a great feeling to see those who are new in Christ begin to learn the Word of God and then mature in their spiritual walk, being changed daily into the very image of Jesus Christ. How incredible would it be to see someone else prospering even as “your soul prospers”?  A Servants Heart is not some earthreal dream, it is possible and it is the truth of God's Word.

Sometime this week, try this:  Go up to someone and ask this question. - "How can I serve you today."
